Creating A Redirection Page
For Your Affiliate URL
Sometimes those long affiliate URL’s can be cumbersome – especially when they’re used as a name for your webpage.
This problem isn’t obvious when you imbed your unique identifier into a hyperlink, but if your potential customer has to type in a rather unwieldy URL such as:
http://www.instantaffilatemarketing.com/cmd.php?Clk=xxxxxx
They’ll probably just say the heck with it.
The solution? Just create a simple redirect page on your website. It’s easy - here's how it’s done:
You’ll make a directory off your website. It’s just like your computer. You have a “C” drive – right? You probably have a directory called “Program Files” – right?
“Program Files” is what’s known as a subdirectory. (Hey – this ain’t rocket science. Most things on your computer or website are easy to understand, once someone sits down and explains them to you!)
If you don’t know how to add a subdirectory to your website – just ask your webmaster or hosting company. (It’s incredibly simple.)
Now, instead of doing this on your local computer, you’ll simply create a subdirectory at your website. Lets say your website’s URL is: www.yoursite.com.
Let’s now say you want to promote: “The Insider Secrets to 15 Second Marketing.”
Choose a name like: 15seconds
You can choose most any name you want, but it’s always best to choose one that has something to do with the product you’re promoting!
STEP BY STEP EXAMPLE:
You're promoting “The Insider Secrets to 15 Second Marketing.”
- You’ll want to make a unique directory to redirect those particular customers to your page on my site.
- Choose a name that has something to do with the product. In this case – we’ll use: 15seconds
- Create a subdirectory on your site called: 15seconds
With your word processor, create a file called: redirect.htm
In PLAIN TEXT MODE, cut and paste the following code into the document.
<html><body>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;
url=http://www.insideraffilateprogram.com/cmd.php?Clk=xxxxxx">
</body></html>
<a href="http://www.insideraffilateprogram.com/cmd.php?Clk=xxxxxx">
<img src="yourbannergraphic.gif" border=0></a> |
- Remember: Replace the ‘xxxxxx’ with your own unique ID number! (Very important of you want to get paid!) Also: replace “yourbannergraphic.gif” with the name of the banner graphic you are actually using.
Now – copy this file INTO THE NEW SUBDIRECTORY!
- Make sure you copy it into the new subdirectory you just created. NOT THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF YOUR WEBSITE! If not – it won’t work.
Now you can use the shorter and 'cleaner' www.yoursite.com/15seconds URL in your promotions! (Or whatever name you chose.)
Now you can use the shorter and 'cleaner' www.yoursite.com/15seconds URL in your promotions! (Or whatever name you chose.)
Now … when anyone clicks on www.yoursite.com/15seconds they’ll be redirected to: http://www.websiteconversionexpert.com/cmd.php?Clk=xxxxxx (Your personally tagged page on my site.)
Pretty neat, isn’t it!
This one little trick helps you get more clicks because it doesn't look like an obvious paid link.
